Always free to attend. Anyone who lives in or near the Sans Souci neighborhood is welcome to join us!
 
The goal of our association is to unite our community, to make it a more pleasant place for all fellow residents and local businesses, to be a place where we can all connect and stay informed. We will be a communication point with our city’s local government, keeping neighbors informed of local issues and events, and will voice our community’s concerns to the city. We have a liaison with the Citizens Planning Action Committee, who attends monthly meetings, where different members from our city government give presentations regarding things that are happening that affect us, and the liaison will report back to our neighborhood association members with relevant info.
 
Please note, we are not a Homeowners Association (HOA). Participation is and will always be entirely voluntary.
 
The boundaries of Sans Souci are as follows:
Parental Home Road to the east, University Blvd. to the west, Beach Blvd. to the north, and Barnes Road to the south. Whether you rent, own a home, or have a business near or within these boundaries, you are welcome to join our association.

For those who signed up at our last meeting- Fill those blue bags with litter you picked up in and around the neighborhood, and bring them to Wurn Park on Sunday at 4pm. If you run out of bags and have to use your own, that's okay. We will be making a pile by the curb at the far left corner, and the city will come pick it up in the next day. Don't forget to take some before/after photos of the areas you clean up and email them to sanssoucineighborhood at gmail dot com along with the street name / area, so I can submit them. At this time, we'll take a group photo.

-Mark gave everyone more info on the Christmas party that we're collaborating on with the Elks Lodge. The Elks have received a grant to provide gifts for children whose families may have been struggling to afford them this year. This Breakfast with Santa party will take place on Dec 5, 9am, at the Elks Lodge on West Road. All are welcome to join, and if any members of our community want to volunteer to help, please let us know!

-I've signed our Association up to participate in the city's current Litter League competition. This round's grand prize is a Jags game in the city's box at the stadium. There are 5 spots left- let me know if you're interested in signing up. If you've already signed up and need supplies, let me know, I have a bunch of gloves and garbage bags provided by the city. The official pick up date will be on Sunday Oct. 4, and we will meet again at Wurn Park at 5pm to drop off the bags for the city to pick up, and take a group photo. If you aren't able to pick up on that day, but want to take part, you can still do so. Trashed on Tuesdays and Adopt-a-Park pickups can also count. Just send me your before/after photos of the areas you clean up, including photos of the full bags, so I can submit them. Send to sanssoucineighborhood a t gmail.com

-We are going to sign SSNA up to adopt Wurn and Drew parks. The requirement is 6 cleanups per year. I will update everyone with more specifics soon. For info on the program:

-Our Sans Souci Neighborhood Watch liason, John Paffe, had a lot of good info on crime statistics (Sans Souci's crime level is down), and ways to be vigilant in protecting property and looking out for neighbors. He also spoke about resources he's created to help get a better idea of what areas he can communicate to JSO that needs their focus. More info here:

-I also reminded everyone of the city's free tree program. We just got our second free tree, a chaste tree. There are many to pick from, of all sizes! Sans Souci's tree canopy is sorely lacking compared to a lot of Jacksonville. Here's the info from the city:

All you have to do is call 630-CITY(2489) and request to participate. An urban forestry staff member takes you through the easy process of how to request a tree and how you are helping make Jacksonville a better place.

So I put in a ticket with myjax.custhelp.com, and within 2 hours, someone from the city was out there spraying spots on the sidewalk to mark for repair. If you see something in the neighborhood that needs attention, put in those tickets! The city doesn't usually know there's an issue until someone makes it known.

The owner, Marion, was super sweet, and so excited about the traditional southern food they're cooking up there. And it was was delicious! I recommend checking them out.

At the lastest CPAC meeting, Cindy Pearson from DCPS wanted to remind everyone that school will be back in session on August 10, and so to plan on more traffic and student pedestrians around school time again soon.
Along with this, she wanted to remind everyone that the School Bus Stop-Arm Camera Violation Program is now in effect. Under Florida State Statute 316.172, motorists are required to stop when a school bus extends its stop arm and activates its flashing red lights. Motorists who fail to stop for a school bus will be subject to a $225 monetary fine in accordance with Florida law. Video footage of all stop-arm violations will be reviewed by School Police to confirm if a violation occurred, prior to a citation being issued. More info here:
