Sidewalk repair on Una Drive

Today when I checked on the Una Drive Little Library, I noticed that the sidewalk was damaged and pieces were coming off. So I put in a ticket with myjax.custhelp.com, and within 2 hours, someone from the city was out there spraying spots on the sidewalk to mark for repair. If you see something in the neighborhood that needs attention, put in those tickets! The city doesn't usually know there's an issue until someone makes it known.

School Bus Stop-Arm Camera Violation Program now in effect

At the lastest CPAC meeting, Cindy Pearson from DCPS wanted to remind everyone that school will be back in session on August 10, and so to plan on more traffic and student pedestrians around school time again soon.

Along with this, she wanted to remind everyone that the School Bus Stop-Arm Camera Violation Program is now in effect. Under Florida State Statute 316.172, motorists are required to stop when a school bus extends its stop arm and activates its flashing red lights. Motorists who fail to stop for a school bus will be subject to a $225 monetary fine in accordance with Florida law. Video footage of all stop-arm violations will be reviewed by School Police to confirm if a violation occurred, prior to a citation being issued. More info here:

Terry Road service tickets

Today I put in a ticket for the state of the pothole “repairs” on Terry Rd, including a photo. And another one for the abandoned red shopping card by Randy Rd. I’ll let y’all know what happens with those. Also, about a month ago I put in a ticket to have the city add flashing lights to the Terry Rd school zone, and that is showing an estimated completion date of the end of July… we’ll see what happens!

FDOT June questions follow up

Regarding the blight underneath the I-95 / University Blvd overpass. FDOT and JSO are now targeting this spot! Earlier this month, our neighbor Pam contacted the state regarding the blight in that spot, as it is state-owned. The person she spoke to put in a ticket, and informed her that Jorgenson Contracting is who the state contracted to keep that area clean; they said she could also follow up with them (904-778-2828). Which Pam did. She posted about the situation online, and coincidentally, I had just received an email from the Neighborhoods Department asking if CPAC members had any questions for the FDOT rep. So I told them about what Pam was dealing with, and asked for a followup. Within a few days of Pam's actions, there were trucks out there with several workers cleaning it all up! Ms. Jenkins, the FDOT rep at the meeting, confirmed that on June 18, a major cleanup was done there. JSO Commander Tillman also confirmed that officers have been focusing more presence in that spot, and had made an arrest there a few days ago. While blight can be hard to keep up with, I've noticed that area looking way better, including the on-ramp to I-95 next to it. This just goes to show, how we can make a positive difference in our area just by putting in those tickets to alert the city or state when there's a problem. Most of the time, it starts by calling 630-CITY. Thank you Pam, for making this improvement happen!

Marina had also asked for a follow up on the I-95 construction in our area. Ms. Jenkins from FDOT said:

"There is a project to reconstruct and add lanes on I-95(SR9) from S of SR126(Emerson St) to Atlantic Blvd. Construction for this project started in August/September of 2023 and is projected to be completed in November 2027.

Additionally, FDOT will be reconstructing and adding lanes to I-95(SR9) from SR202(Butler Blvd) to S of SR126(Emerson St). Construction should be starting this month and is estimated to be completed in March 2030. (432259-5)"

JSO Annual Town Hall

Citizens are invited to join Sheriff T.K. Waters, district commanders, and other members of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at an upcoming town hall meeting this summer. Our District 3’s will be on July 14 at 6:30pm, at the Church of Eleven22 Mandarin Campus.
